He chases invisible shadows….he loves to roll over for a tummy tickle….he thinks taking a shower or bath with you is really cool….and when he is hungry…he purrs up a storm! He is a prankster, a lovable oaf, and has the heart of a hunter, combined with the love of the ages. He would never dream of tearing up your curtains….but he would love to lay on your computer keyboard when you want to type. And read the Sunday paper? Not if your Maine Coon can help it….she wants to be front and center in your affections! Yet, if you need comfort….she will be there for you, unswerving in devotion. Indeed, the Maine Coon is an unusual cat!

The Maine Coon Personality
Our Maine Coons are large, docile, intelligent cats exhibiting excellent Maine Coon type. They are fun-loving and intelligent. We believe that Maine Coons are companions first, so our breeding philosophy is to produce a "family cat" with a warm, loving disposition. Whether destined for the show ring or as a beloved family pet, Artemea Maine Coons are happiest when they can cuddle near you when you need comfort, play with you when you need distraction or sleep next to you on cold winter nights.

America's Native Cat
The Maine Coon is native to America and is a strong, genetically well-endowed animal whose attributes have been developed through adaptation to the harsh environment of the New England coast. Our cats are known for their strong boning, excellent head-type and people-oriented dispositions.

Everything about the Maine Coon has been shaped by nature….their large paws (to capture their prey)…their strong, square muzzles (to enable the chomping of said prey)…their large, well furnished ears (to keep them from the harsh cold, and enable them to hear imminent dangers)….and their long, shaggy coat…(shorter on the shoulders to protect them from getting caught in the underbrush…and longer on the sides, along with soft underbelly fur…to keep them warm as they lay in the snow….)

"Bart was our first "show cat". He arrived in our daughter Ashley's Christmas stocking back in December '94 and has been her faithful companion ever since. Although he is now retired from show ring competitions, Bart still travels with Ashley for the occasional show outing and still throws his tail up in the air and assumes the "I am the King" stance when asked. He epitomizes what we love in the Maine Coon; large, gentle, affectionate, yet playful and responsive. As her erstwhile companion, Bart continues to lay claim to his favorite pillow and sleep next to Ashley every night.
